Well if the obvious hadn’t hit me in the face this morning (thanks Monica) I’d never even have thought about this … which is kinda dumb considering what I’m doing here. Well ok I do have something in my defense … I’m trying to teach pattern making rather than just give away free patterns. But there’s no way I’m going to take any credit away from those who are doing the whole good karma thing. So here’s a couple of sites that might be worth a visit if you’re looking for free patterns (all types, not just stretch).
- IlanoWear – great site, sadly closed … patterns here http://www.ilaniowear.com/patterns/index.html.
- Burda Style – obviously you can’t go past this one for the whole sewing community feel, even though only some patterns are free.
- Free Needle – portal for free sewing pattern sites that has had it’s useful moments when I’m searching for something perculiar.
I’m not up to par on looking for free patterns because I simply make my own … the main advantage to being a pattern maker
… so if you have ones you particularly like, especially if they’re stretch, then please add them in and let’s make up a list of the good ones.
Oh and one other thing … and I hate to ask for things like this, but this is one of the exceptions. You can thank me for all my hard work (cough cough) by voting for my good friend Tia who is an entrant in Miss Universe Western Australia … click here to vote. I’ve know Tia for many years and she’s modelled for me on a number of occasions and she’s always been a really nice person to work with … I’m so proud she’s in the running so please take the time and give her a vote. I’d really appreciate the effort

Hi there
I love your site and have been using it to (very slowly) create my own bikini. Just wanted to let you know another excellent free pattern site that I have recently stumbled across is http://www.yourstylerocks.com.
They hold contests where people submit their own designs, everyone votes on their favourite and they construct a pattern for the winning design in a range of sizes.
Btw agree with you on the multiple dart creator. Only need to look at a few vintage sewing patterns to see that its an established pattern technique.
Thanks for you great site. Voting for Tia was the least I could do. Go WA!!! Come on other readers – vote for Tia as a sign of appreciation for this blog.
