About This Blog This blog is aimed, specifically, at teaching students of fashion design how to make close-fit stretch-wear patterns. While the public can certainly learn a lot from reading the blog, they may find they need the added guidance of an "in class" fashion teacher ... I'm not going to provide this level of instruction.
Everything you need to design women's swim or dancewear patterns is already here. By combining the various elements of each lesson a design student should be able to create any number of designs. I will not be adding new patterns unless it becomes necessary for one of my classes.
If you'd like to keep in touch with like minded creative people then feel free to add me as a friend on facebook ... I love to see what others are doing ... just type Pattern School as the message and I'll know to add you.

My experiment in alternative fashion can be seen at Itty Bitty Evil Kitty ... please drop by and add your opinions and help shape the experiment.

I have to say I love this swimsuit by Herve Leger. OK it’s not my favorite colour choice and I’d move the lines a little, but this is a very clever garment. I’m saddened to see so many negative comments about it on so many fashion blogs so I’m going to give it my personal . . . → Read More: Swimsuit of the Week
Hi everyone … I’m back from my 9.5 week journey of Asia … I saw Thailand, Laos, Burma and China … and I’m going back as soon as possible. I’ve been well and truely charmed by all things oriental … without doubt my favourite is Thailand. Anyhow, to keep things going along here I . . . → Read More: Swimsuit of the Week?
As the snow begins to thaw out across the Northern United States and bright green blades of grass peek through the soggy dirt, you should be reminded to think about the coming Summer’s swimwear and how to get rid of the excess celebratory season’s weight, toning up and maybe even think about attacking that . . . → Read More: Swimwear Spring/Summer 2011
Well, would you believe I’m still stuck on this whole animal print topic? I was drawn to investigating why I still found something so repugnant still sexy?? I’ve spent the whole day researching the psychology and history of animal print. It seems I’ve pretty much got the whole psychology bit right … animal print lights up . . . → Read More: What the? … Part Three
I just wanted to add a little more on my thoughts about animal prints (see my previous post first). How many of you said “that’s too much” when you clicked the Google link?

Once upon a time I used to think fake fur just wasn’t good enough … if anything it said the owner was cheap and nasty. Don’t get me wrong … I’m not a gun toting hunter! Fake fur just seemed … well … really fake … and I’ve bought my fair share of the . . . → Read More: What the?
While setting up a Facebook page so old friends can find out where I am (OK so I’ve been terrible at keeping up with people) I recently came across the page of a girl who used to work for me back when I was in Perth, Western Australia. While she probably doesn’t think much of . . . → Read More: A Blast From My Past
Please bare with me while I update the appearance of the site, change a few links around, edit a few pages and basically set up the site so it will maintain itself a little better. Things may get a little messy and look very odd over the next short while but it’ll all come . . . → Read More: Time for a Face Lift
I really dislike this topic, there’s never a conclusive answer and most participants have an emotional stake involved … but here it is anyway.
A few days ago I posted a response on another blog with respect to the advertising methods/standards of a company called American Apparel. Now I’m pretty sure most people . . . → Read More: Are There Such Things As Advertising Standards In Fashion?
I get asked about garment copyright every single day. Really … every single day … and my advice is usually to go and do an intellectual property course. They’re not expensive and they’re most helpful, but related more toward protecting your label name rather than anything to do with pattern making. This is mostly . . . → Read More: How Does Design Copyright Really Work?
