About This Blog

This blog is aimed, specifically, at teaching students of fashion design how to make close-fit stretch-wear patterns. While the public can certainly learn a lot from reading the blog, they may find they need the added guidance of an "in class" fashion teacher ... I'm not going to provide this level of instruction.

Everything you need to design women's swim or dancewear patterns is already here. By combining the various elements of each lesson a design student should be able to create any number of designs. I will not be adding new patterns unless it becomes necessary for one of my classes.

If you'd like to keep in touch with like minded creative people then feel free to add me as a friend on facebook ... I love to see what others are doing ... just type Pattern School as the message and I'll know to add you.

My experiment in alternative fashion can be seen at Itty Bitty Evil Kitty ... please drop by and add your opinions and help shape the experiment.

Eclipse Textiles

I love this company. I know I’ve mentioned them often before, but put simply, if you do anything with stretch fabrics in Australia then nothing beats these guys … nothing. If you haven’t dealt with them yet and you’re an ABN holder in the game here then you are literally not up to par. Let’s Talk Textiles Part V

I’m getting an awful lot of people asking me for pricing information on Eclipse’s range of products following my last article.  I did ask them, however they’ve rightfully pointed out that they’re a wholesaler to industry and don’t sell directly to the public. While this site is aimed principally at fashion students and the . . . → Read More: Let’s Talk Textiles Part V

Let's Talk Textiles Part IV

As Kathleen from Fashion Incubator points out, I choose lousy post titles! So sue me

As mentioned previously, Eclipse Textiles recently sent me another batch of rather exotic fabrics by Jersey Lomelina which bring up a very interesting topic I should talk more about. It’s going to take a bit of explanation . . . → Read More: Let’s Talk Textiles Part IV

Let’s Talk Textiles Part III

Without doubt, the sexiest and most intimate category of stretch fit would have to be underwear, closely followed by its associates sleepwear and loungewear. Each of these are usually considered separate categories by the fashion industry, but such is the overlap in design between them that I tend to lump them altogether. Now not . . . → Read More: Let’s Talk Textiles Part III

Dye Sublimation Printing

For some reason everyone I talk to today is looking into dye sublimation printing. When coupled with my review of high tech fabrics I thought I better provide a brief mention of this printing technique.

Dye sublimation printing is a means of computer printing an image to a transfer medium and then from . . . → Read More: Dye Sublimation Printing

Let's Talk Textiles Part II

True to their word, Eclipse Textiles landed a huge bundle of high tech fabrics on my doorstep today. I was sort of hoping it’d be one sample every now and then, but there were well over a dozen so it looks like I have some work to do. Many of these fabrics I’ve never . . . → Read More: Let’s Talk Textiles – Part II

Let's Talk Textiles

I ordered a bundle of fabric today to test some new patterns I’m working on and it left me wondering about how I’ve tended to stick with what I know best. Here I am saying you need to constantly test new pattern designs and yet I’ve always stuck to the same fabrics! To be . . . → Read More: Let’s Talk Textiles
