Lazy People's Swimwear Patterns

This section is here for those who don't have the time to make their own patterns ... it is not a substitute for learning stretch fit pattern making properly. Everything you could think to ask about stretch fit pattern making has already been answered in the rest of this site ... so click here if you came directly to this page from someone else's link as you will have missed all those parts (and please don't link directly to this page).

At least make sure you've read the Start Here FAQ before using the Pattern Library as it explains how the library and file formats work. Unless a pattern is asymmetric I will only present one side ... the dashed line represents a fold or mirror line. No seam allowance is added to these patterns. Click here for hints on seams and seam allowances.

Hipster Bikini

This is the current hipster bikini style offered by most high fashion swimwear labels. I have paired it up with the corresponding style lines for the string side version. While I have allowed for the option of vertical negative ease I don't believe you should add any. This pattern works best only on horizontal negative ease. You can vary the width of the band at the side seam. I also like to make the pattern as a single piece rather than having a seam between the front and back panels. I've marked where the seam would be if your fabric print requires you to cut the pattern.

Full Bikini Brief

A nice safe full bottom bikini brief with wider sides. This is not a hipster style ... the top of the waist band is higher. If you widen the side strap the leg line lowers automatically without raising the waist band any further. While I have allowed for the option of vertical negative ease I don't believe you should add any. This pattern works best only on horizontal negative ease. You can vary the width of the band at the side seam. I also like to make the pattern as a single piece rather than having a seam between the front and back panels. Darted Triangle Bikini Top

The classic darted triangle. Cup size and dart angle are automatically calculated by comparision of bust and underbust measurements. This style of top is usually bound on all sides and so doesn't need seam allowance. If you want to use fold over elastic on the sides of the triangle you'll need to add the appropriate amount of allowance. If you want to put a draw string along the bottom (not necessary because its darted) then you'll need to add allowance for that too.

Gathered Triangle Bikini Top

The worlds most common bikini top. Cup size is automatically calculated by comparision of bust and underbust measurements. This style of top is usually bound on the sides and so doesn't need seam allowance. If you want to use fold over elastic on the sides of the triangle you'll need to add the appropriate amount of allowance. You need to add allowance for the draw string at the bottom.

Traditional Monokini

The world's most sexiest swimsuit in my humble opinion. It probably isn't, however, suited to any but the fittest of bodies. While it does work ok for larger busts, I wouldn't rely on the garment holding them in place. A great garment for modelling competitions if you are required to wear a one piece as well as a bikini. It is surprisingly easy to put together because you literally only have three seams and then you bind the whole garment with elastic. 8-9mm elastic on 10mm seam allowance (not added to the pattern) is probably easiest with all the strings added last.

Halter Neck One Piece

This is a deep plunging halter neck that, like the monokini, has no real bust support, but does cover a little more. The neck strap is 24mm wide which fits snuggly into the 20mm bikini clips without sliding around. Of course you could probably just pull the garment over your head with a little effort without the need for a clip. Occasionally you may need to tweak this pattern a little tighter at the back side seam above the waist line (particularly people with deep sway backs) ... you know you'll need to do this if the center back keeps pulling down to the waist line. Sexy without being too revealing!
